Our experienced guide will assess the conditions and recent wildlife sightings to determine the best course for the morning adventure.

What to Expect from Borneo Primate Safari Tour
Our Primate special tour offers a rich, immersive experience focused on observing Borneo’s unique and often endemic primate species in their natural rainforest habitats. Guests will explore the diverse habitats of Kinabatangan River ecosystem, primary rainforests of Danum Valley conservation area, the largest reserve forests in Tabin, Deramakot’s reduced impact logged forest, and also witness the conservation efforts in Sepilok.
Daily average 11 hours of private guided safari game drives in Deramakot; daily 11 hours of guided activities (trek and drives) in Danum Valley and Tabin; private morning, afternoon and night cruises in Kinabatangan river with couple of private guided night walks.
The key primate species one may encounter in this tour are:
- Wild orangutans in Deramakot, Kinabatangan, Tabin and Danum whereas semi-wild, rescued orangutan individuals in Sepilok. The orangutans build a fresh nest almost daily, and go to the nest every afternoon, we expect to observe this moment.
- Proboscis monkey along Kinabatangan river and in the labuk bay. Look for the moment when the proboscis monkey jump from tree to tree, and sometime to the river in the late afternoon. They usually spend the night high up in the trees along the river for safety from predators.
- Bornean gibbons are tracked from their morning calls and the swinging movements early in the morning. Except in Kinabatangan, one will have good chance to spot Bornean gibbons in all other locations. Tabin wildlife resort has a resident gibbon family which are often seen at an eye level.
- Leaf monkeys-red leaf monkey or maroon langur and silver leaf monkeys are seen often.
- Long-tailed and pig-tailed macaques are expected throughout the tour, however, their behavior will vary across the locations.
- Sabah grey langur is an elusive primate species that is spotted and photographed by our guests in Tabin and Deramakot a lot recently.
- The only two nocturnal primate species of Borneo- slow loris and western tarsier are spotted often in the Danum valley and also during the night walk in Sepilok. We have several records of slow loris from Deramakot and less from Kinabatangan and Tabin. Slow loris is the only venomous primate, and it is nice to see them licking the gland and sometime with the babies hanging by the mom. The cute-looking Western tarsier is quite aggressive towards small insects and is completely carnivore. Their eye-balls are stuck in the ey-socket and so they rotate their whole head 360 degree to look around their environment. They emits ultrasonic vocalizations to communicate.
