Utan Rainforest Lodge can be reached through a 2.5-hour overland trip from Lahad Datu, the closest town to the Sungai Kapur Virgin Jungle Reserve (VJR).It has direct access to a wonderful mangrove forest.

Day 1:
Your adventure begins with an airport pickup, followed by a quick stop at our office for check-in. From there, embark on a 2.5-hour overland journey to our new ecolodge, Utan Rainforest Lodge, which boasts 14 air-conditioned rooms situated in the Virgin Jungle Reserve (VJR) of Sungai Kapur.
Enjoy the comfort of our rooms, each equipped with en suite bathrooms and heated showers. Take advantage of our covered restaurant, open deck, dip pool, and bar with a gift corner.
Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted with a warm welcome and a briefing about our facilities, followed by a delicious lunch and check-in.
Experience the beauty of the Sungai Kapur Virgin Jungle Reserve and its diverse flora and fauna on an introductory walk near the lodge. As the day progresses, join us for a sunset river cruise, where you can spot wildlife and enjoy a stunning sunset over the estuary. If the weather permits, keep an eye out for a captivating light show from fireflies on your way back to the lodge for dinner.
After dinner, embark on a night safari drive, offering a chance to encounter the fascinating nocturnal wildlife that inhabits our forest.
Day 2 :
Rise early to the symphony of the jungle. After a quick breakfast, we’ll set off for a short morning hike. Immerse yourself in the lush surroundings and get your heart racing as we visit the Cuckoo Hide to photograph some of Borneo’s endemic birds and other avian species in the area. Afterwards, return to the lodge to freshen up before enjoying a delicious breakfast at the restaurant.
Following breakfast, weather and sea conditions permitting, we’ll embark on a river cruise adventure along the coastline, venturing into the Segama River and its mangrove forests. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife encounters, including flying foxes, eagles, and dolphins.
Return to the lodge to relax and refresh before enjoying a hearty lunch. Take some time to rest after your meal and prepare for a long jungle trek.
Before heading out on your jungle trek, explore our lodge further by visiting the information gallery, shopping for souvenirs, savoring our premium in-house beverages at the restaurant, or taking a refreshing dip in our dip pool to cool off.
As the sun sets, delight your taste buds with a delectable dinner, and then head out for a night walk around the lodge. Experience the tranquility of the night and keep an eye out for nocturnal creatures like civets, leopard cats, mouse deer, and moonrats that roam the darkness.
Return to the lodge for a restful night’s sleep.
Day 3:
Enjoy a substantial breakfast while you wake up to the sounds of the jungle and get ready to face the day. Take advantage of your free time at your own pace and indulge in a delectable meal before you check out.
Make your way to Lahad Datu in preparation for your flight that will depart in the late afternoon.
